Healthcare waste management

Treat infectious healthcare and laboratory waste at source

Sterilwave combines shredding and microwave treatment in one closed vessel. SimpleComply helps you select, finance, implement and maintain the right configuration for your facility.

More control over safety, logistics and cost

On-site treatment can reduce the storage time and external transport of infectious waste. The process is fully electric, uses no steam pressure or chemicals, and produces no liquid effluent during treatment.

Safer workflow

Shorten the internal journey and residence time of untreated infectious waste.

Predictable uptime

Gain direct control over treatment timing, capacity and process traceability.

Less transport

Reduce dependence on collection schedules and external transport movements.

Less waste

Shredding substantially reduces volume. Actual results depend on the model and waste composition.

One closed vessel, one controlled cycle

1

Load

Approved healthcare waste is loaded according to your operating procedure.

2

Shred

A rotating blade makes the waste unrecognisable and increases treatment efficiency.

3

Treat

Microwave energy heats the material during a validated decontamination cycle.

4

Unload

The output is dry, stable and inert. Classification and disposal remain subject to local rules.

Evidence & validation

Evidence for safety, compliance and investment decisions

Healthcare waste treatment is not selected on capacity alone. Microbiological performance, occupational hygiene, environmental conditions, logistics, validation and the authorised downstream route must work together. SimpleComply turns these requirements into a transparent, site-specific decision and validation file.

Microbiological assurance

Bertin reports microbial inactivation of up to 8 log10 for Sterilwave using shredding and microwave treatment. We treat this as a performance claim to be demonstrated under defined loading, cycle and monitoring conditions, not as a universal guarantee of absolute sterility. SimpleComply prepares the waste acceptance matrix, site-specific validation plan and auditable evidence file.

Occupational hygiene & biosafety

We integrate the installation into the occupational risk assessment, including waste acceptance, closed handling, sharps risk, exposure moments, operating procedures, PPE, training, maintenance and incident response. Equipment is one control measure within the complete safety system.

Environment & downstream route

According to Bertin, the process uses no process water, produces no liquid effluent during treatment and involves no combustion. Our assessment also covers electricity, vapour and odour, noise, transport, storage, waste classification and the authorised destination of the treated material. We can also advise on practical waste separation solutions after treatment.

Procurement & logistics

Capacity is based on measured volumes, composition and peak loads. We assess location, utilities, internal routes, storage, life-cycle cost, service availability, maintenance, training, purchase, financing and leasing so procurement receives a complete and comparable business case.

Documented validation and classification conditions

  • Traceable cycle records and recorded critical process parameters.
  • Verification with suitable chemical or biological indicators, including indicator strips where required by the applicable validation protocol.
  • Documented acceptance criteria, deviations and corrective actions.
  • Conditional classification under Eural code 18 01 04 only after demonstrable decontamination, removal of the infection risk and acceptance by the authorised downstream route.

Important: treatment does not automatically result in Eural code 18 01 04 or create a circular destination.

How the evidence is used

WHO identifies microwave treatment as an applicable non-incineration technology category when systems can be operated and maintained properly and treated waste can be disposed of safely. This is not a WHO product endorsement of Sterilwave. Manufacturer data and technology-level scientific research support the assessment; site-specific validation remains essential.
